BSBMED302 Prepare and process medical accounts - Assessment 1 What you need to do This is the first of two assessments for this unit. Assessment 1 covers the following: · Patient categories for fee purposes · Scheduling medical appointments · Patient referrals · Public and private health insurance systems · Services not eligible for Medicare rebate · Legislation in the workplace For a successful result all tasks must be completed and submitted to a teacher for review. There are three tasks to complete. Some tasks have more than one part to be completed. These are simulated tasks based on those you may be required to complete in the workplace. Task 1 Part A Using your learning resources and the internet complete the following table. Category Who pays for the treatment? How/when will the payment be collected? Private patients Patients who are bulk billed Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) patients Workers Compensation patient Motor vehicle accident (MVA) patients Part B Using your learning resources and the internet, conduct some research on the following patient types: · Department of Veteran’s Affairs · Motor Vehicle claimants · Workers compensation claimants Briefly describe the differences between each of the above patient categories. Part C It is important to be aware of your roles and responsibilities when working in a medical environment in relation to legislation. Discuss how standards, codes of practice and relevant regulations and legislation affect your daily workplace operations. Include two (2) potential consequences of not complying. Task 2 Part A Answer the following questions relating to referrals. Who generates the initial referral letter? Where should a referral letter be stored? What is the most common length of time for a referral to a specialist? Why is a referral letter important in relation to claims Part B Two patient referrals have been emailed to ‘The Local Clinic’ specialist rooms where you work. Each patient has an appointment scheduled for 25 September 2018. Check each of the referrals for validity and identify any required actions. Referral 1 Referral 2 Part C Using the following extract from a ‘The Local Clinic’ Policy and Procedure manual state: · where each of the previous referrals will be saved and · identify the file name for each referral.
