Task 2 An initial court hearing is to be conducted regarding the actions of James Carter and your digital forensics investigation played a major role. Your supervisor has asked you to write a detailed digital forensics article based on one of the forensic fields in the investigation you conducted.  The suggested topics are: · Disk Forensics and File Carving · Memory Forensics · Network and Cloud Forensics · Mobile and Embedded Systems Forensics · Timeline Analysis This article should follow the recommended report structure. Your report on the investigation should include the following main headings and for each step must include examples from the case evidence: · Introduction – Provide an overview of the selected field of digital forensics study.  Why is it useful? When is it used? · Evidence Acquisition - Describe how evidence should be acquired.  What techniques are used to ensure that the digital evidence is not tampered with or altered or destroyed during the acquisition process. · Forensic Analysis - Provide a detailed description of the forensic analysis that is performed. What are the algorithms, techniques or methods used to conduct the analysis. Discuss the problems and issues that must be overcome. · Forensic Tools - Provide an overview of the tools used to conduct forensics analysis.  Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the available tools. These are the tools that I have been used in my Task 1 (Wireshark, The Sleuth Kit, Autopsy, Registry Viewer, Volatility Framework, Hashing Tools, scalpel, fcrackzip, · Conclusions - A summary of conclusions should follow logically from previous sections in the report and should also describe the future directions of the selected field. Don’t worry too much about the example from the case evidence, just give me examples in general. So, I will be able to add some case examples by myself later on once you have finished this report.

Introduction
Within the context of cybersecurity and law enforcement, digital forensics is an essential and developing topic. The importance of digital forensics in criminal investigations and data recovery has never been greater in an era where digital gadgets are pervasive and practically every part of our life is entwined with technology. Disc Forensics and File Carving stand out as crucial techniques for finding, conserving, and analysing digital evidence among the numerous subfields of digital forensics. Disc forensics and file carving are useful across many different industries. These methods have shown to be essential in protecting the integrity of digital evidence and assisting the legal system, whether it is for retrieving lost data, resolving criminal cases, identifying intellectual property theft, or minimising the effects of cybersecurity events. The core ideas, procedures, and equipment involved in file carving and disc forensics are examined in this article. It describes the procedures for gathering evidence, doing forensic analysis, and highlighting the benefits and drawbacks of the technologies frequently used in these investigations. It also analyses the field's future developments as it continues to adjust to the rapidly evolving state of digital technology and data storage. The study of disc forensics and file carving is still crucial in the pursuit of justice and the defence of sensitive data in a world where digital fingerprints are prevalent.
Utility of Disk Forensics and File Carving
Disk Forensics and File Carving are essential in a range of scenarios:
· Data Recovery: The process of recovering lost, destroyed, or damaged digital data from storage devices including hard discs, USB drives, and memory cards is known as data recovery. It uses methods like file carving, which can recover information even from corrupted or damaged storage media, guaranteeing the return of crucial data for a variety of uses, including forensic investigations and system repair (Lee & Lee, 2020).
· Criminal Investigations: Criminal investigations entail the rigorous and organized process of assembling evidence to locate and prosecute those who are thought to have committed a crime. In these investigations, digital forensics is crucial because it examines digital information from devices and networks to make connections, find proof of wrongdoing, and support legal actions.
· Intellectual Property Theft: The unauthorized acquisition, duplication, or dissemination of intellectual property, such as patents, copyrights, and trade secrets, is known as intellectual property theft (Thomas & Scholar, 2021). Investigating data breaches, unauthorized access, and the unauthorized disclosure of confidential information are all part of digital forensics. Using forensic analysis, owners of...
