Learning objectives: · Define and describe the concept of humanism · Reflect on the definition and concept of humanism within the context of nursing · Identify aspects of humanism (or lack therof) in a fictional scenario (film) Instructions: · Watch and reflect on the movie “Wit”. A link to the movie can be found on the Blackboard site. · Write a one page paper reflecting on your thoughts about the video and answering ALL of the points listed below in the Grading Rubric section. · Submit this assignment via Safe Assign in the SafeAssign section of Blackboard.     I was quite impressed and inspired by how the patient experience was portrayed in the movie "Wit," as well as how humanism, empathy, and compassion were explored in nursing. A variety of feelings and perceptions were sparked by the account of Vivian Bearing, a bright literature professor who was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer.
    First and foremost, the movie deeply affected my feeling of empathy and sympathy for people who are suffering from fatal illnesses. It was both eye-opening and heartbreaking to follow Vivian's path through the hospital system (Mukhida, Sedighi, & Hart, 2022). It helped me to see how vulnerable patients are and how crucial it is to treat them with the utmost respect and decency. I couldn't help but go back on my own experiences and instances in which I could have disregarded patients' psychological and emotional needs.
