The article selected for the study is “Poor inhaler technique in patients with bronchial asthma treated in King Hussein Medical Centre (KHMC): Rates and effects” written by Haddad, Al-Momani, AlSuleihat, Alnadi and Obeidat (2020). The level of evidence is IV under NHMRC guidelines.
Article 2
The article selected for the study is “Improper inhaler technique is associated with poor asthma control and frequent emergency department visits” written by AL-Jahdali et al. (2013). The level of evidence is IV under NHMRC guidelines.
Critical Analysis of the Research Articles
Article 1
    The title of this research article is clear as it provides the clear, accurate and unambiguous information about the purpose of the study. The author of the study is qualified to conduct the study as author works in the pulmonary department of the hospital. The research article of the study consists of abstract, which clearly provides the overview of the study. The abstract consists of background, objective, method, research and conclusion.
    The introduction of the article is properly arranged along with balanced literature. This article suggested that the rate of prevalence of the bronchial asthma, which is 5-10% of the global population. It also mentioned that the inhaled route of the medication is the most appropriated route to manage the disease. The phenomenon this study interested is impact of use of improper use of inhaler on patient. The aim of the study is to evaluate the proper use of inhaler devices by asthmatic patients according to the standard recommended steps and to identify the factors related to the inaccurate or poor inhaler.
    The research design of the study is cross sectional. This design fits the research objective. The aim of this research study is clearly identified in the article and it reflects in the literature. The research study tries to evaluate the inhaler technique among the patient suffering from asthma and increased their visits to emergency department. The research design matched the study conducted.
The research is based on the concept that inhaler therapy is effective on asthma patient when they followed the correct technique. The sample selected for the study is patient suffering from bronchial asthma. They are the key informant of the study as they experienced the phenomenon. The samples selected are adult patients diagnosed with asthma who visited the ED for asthma management between August 2010 and March 2011.
The research was conducted at King Abdulaziz Medical City – King Fahad National Guard Hospital in Riyadh (KAMC-KFNGH) and the King Khalid University Hospital (KKUH). The participants of the study were not vulnerable because patient’s answers were observed and their confidentiality is protected.
