Task 2 cultural safety (Rough) The Document that you are looking at from Module 2 – focuses mostly on Cultural Competence. For the Task 2 Digital Poster – Students are asked to focus specifically on ‘Cultural Safety’…to address Heading 5. For this Heading - students will write this section in 1st person – however they will use a reference for the Cultural Safety component. For Example, in Module 1 – There are many resources that you can view the build your knowledge about Cultural Safety. In Module 1 - Under the Heading Cultural Safety – Then and Now - There is a link (in the Yellow BOX) to the NMBA and CATSINaM joint statement on culturally safe care. If you read this carefully – you will be able to determine – how you - as a registered nurse or registered midwife can deliver healthcare in a cultural safety framework. Task 2 is the beginning – but you have to demonstrate to the marker in this Task that you understand the importance of ‘Cultural Safety’. You will have to build on your ‘Cultural Safety’ knowledge to have a deeper understanding for Task 3 (Step 5) – where I recommend reading the - Textbook Chapter 3. On page. 57 of this reading – under the heading – Practising cultural safety… Most students use the 6th box for a picture/ image – to enhance the visual appeal of their poster. There is no need for a conclusion. This information below - has been cut and pasted from the Task 2 - Information on the NUR332 BB. References for Task 2 - HARVARD reference format. 6 x references must be included. Please use references no older than 10 years, however, older references okay to use to support historical content. There is no need to reference the case study scenario that you create. I strongly recommend that students follow the Task 2 – PPT instructions - under the Task 2 assessment link information. You can use the 'Cultural Safety' code - which I have directed you to in a previous post (Yellow Box). You also need to write (in 1st person) how you as the nurse or midwife will apply a 'Cultural Safety' framework when caring for the client in your case study scenario. I am unable to find specific references related to Infant Gastroenteritis in Aborginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Do we have to search each reference involving Indigenous Australians and Infants? Can we search for Gastroenteritis topic alone for Pathophysiology and nursing interventions and then find statistics and cultural safety topic by targeting Indigenous Australian infants?  You are on the right track with pulling everything together - please look at - The Paediatric Infectious Disease Journal: Gastroenteritis (diarrhea) is a leading cause of childhood morbidity worldwide and remains one of the most frequent causes of hospitalization in young children....with gastroenteritis hospitalization rates among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in WA being 7.6 times higher than that in non-Aboriginal children. Just see what fits within the words count. For example - use Dot points for the Case Study Scenario/ and maybe the nursing Interventions. The remaining boxes should be written in short succinct paragraphs - just stay within the word count. I have a question with regards to the poster presentation for task 2.   I am researching now for the gastroenteritis case study, I have noted that there are different drug therapy treatments depending on the particular type of gastroenteritis. This leads me to my question regarding section 4 Nursing Interventions and Drug Therapy.  Am I to assume that when creating our case study that you would require us to identify which type of gastroenteritis our young person has in order to give the correct drug therapy details in section 4? Yes you are on the right track…you need to ensure that your poster content is evidenced based - so this is a good approach. You just choose the drug therapy that aligns with the Case Study Scenario you have created - which aligns with the Patho as well. Just a quick question. I am doing my topic on Gestational Hypertension and notice that there are a number of medications that can be used to assist and be safe through pregnancy. Are we meant to name which ones or just pick one medication? In the ZOOM session today a similar question was asked - I responded with - you being the nurse or midwife on 1 x shift only...so you would restrict your medication administration to that shift. I hope this helps... Restrict to focus Gestational hypertension - as this is your Indigenous clients presentation - and will align with your Case Study Scenario. You must remember though that the aim of the poster - is for you to demonstrate to the marker that you understand the importance of caring for Indigenous clients in a culturally safe way - within a nursing or midwifery context. That is correct - so after you do some research your Gastroenteritis diagnoses will align with the patho and drug theraphy that you include in the poster. I hope this helps. Hi Iooking at the pathophysiology of gestational hypertension I understand we need to explain why our patient has presented to hospital I want some clarification please as is this just explaining the symptoms to why they are admitted because as I research more into this I see it goes into more description of what happens to the body. May you clarify please thank you  For this section - as you do your research you will understand that pathophysiology - actually does present as uncommon and disordered physiological processes in the body caused by disease or injury. So from what you have said - you are on the right track - as you have found information of how this disease adversely affects the body. I hope this helps... That is correct - best practice is evidenced based and the most recent practice. Nurses and Midwives do not prescribe in this scenario - but they do administer. This means that - safety protocols/ checks surrounding medication administration would be required. I hope this helps! That is correct - Eg. a visual design with no origin - that is not under copyright - would not need to be referenced. Cheers, Hi Marsha, The Criteria says - for you to choose a possible drug therapy....so just choose one that you have researched - which aligns with your case study scenario content. If you were to just say you would give the anti-hypertensive drug prescribed - this would negate - you being able to demonstrate to the marker that you understand safe medication administration protocols. Yes - you create the case study scenario setting - and a brief maternal health/ ante - natal history would be beneficial to set the scene. For example - when a client comes into your care - you need to know about their family situation - but expanding to refer to a Social Worker and NGO support may be too broad for this Task. Your nursing Interventions - should be nursing Interventions - When your mention drug therapy - that would not qualify as a nursing Intervention. Re-positioning the patient - would be a nursing Intervention - and your nursing interventions can be written in point form. For the Cultural Safety component - Reference the Cultural Safety Codes - and read the Task 2 thread - where I have explained this in detail. Yes - make your case study scenario simple and in Dot Point form - and you do not have to reference the case study scenario - as you are the creator. I am a bit confused as to what I am meant to include for 'conditions prior to needing care/interventions' in the case study. Is it relating to health conditions or other conditions such as living situations and family factors, ect? If you could explain it a bit more, it would be very helpful. best way to explain this is health conditionspresentations - that may need nursing care/interventions...new or ongoing. Cheers, yes - I will allow - but most times students just use their Fundamental Nursing Textbook for Nursing Interventions. I will allow the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne as - a suitable reference. In addition to diarrhoea - you could also include interventions for vomiting/ tummy ache/fever/infection control etc...if these conditions align with your case study scenario? NUR332 - TASK 2 - DIGITAL POSTER CRITERIA – for S2 2020. DESCRIPTION NUR332 TASK 2 - Digital Poster - Due in WEEK 6 - via Blackboard Safe Assign on Friday, Midday (1200hrs) 28/08/2020 The AIM of TASK 2 is for you to use information about a specific health issue relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations, to produce a case study scenario analysis which informs decision making and best practice. It is about developing your critical thinking abilities, your problem-solving skills and drawing on your research knowledge to demonstrate that you understand what best practice is. Your Task 2 is relating to ‘Closing the Gap’. CRITERIA GUIDELINES TO WRITE YOUR DIGITAL POSTER (Academic Skills Support PPT – please view above PPT on the NUR332 BB)       Steps 1, 2, 3 and 4 - to complete your Digital Poster Step 1 - Choose the Focus of Your Digital Poster (refer to document) Being particularly aware of cultural considerations choose one Topic from the Topic List below (please do not create your own topic) - This will provide the focus area of your research, case study scenario development and your digital poster content. Your focus will be about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander infant or child health, or maternal health. TOPIC LIST (Please choose one topic from below and focus on highlighted subtopics: 1. Injury/accident Infant or child client – Your Topic to research is ‘Poisoning’ (this means your digital poster theme is not on the topic of Injury/accident in Indigenous infants or children more broadly - you have to do some research on your topic ‘Poisoning’ and focus your digital poster case study scenario content on that topic). Your client for your case study scenario will be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander male infant or child client (ages 0 – 12 years).   2. Infectious disease Infant or child client – Your Topic to research is ‘Gastroenteritis’ (this means that your digital poster theme is not on the broad topic of Infectious disease in Indigenous infants or children - you have to do some research on your topic ‘Gastroenteritis’ and focus your digital poster case study scenario content on that topic). Your client for your case study scenario will be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander female infant or child client (ages 0 – 12 years). 3. Acute maternal health illness client – Your Topic to research is ‘Gestational hypertension’ (this means that your digital poster theme is not on the broad topic of acute maternal health illness in Indigenous child bearing women – you have to do some research on your topic ‘Gestational hypertension’ and focus your digital poster case study scenario content on that topic). Your client for your case study scenario is an

Introduction
Gastroenteritis (diarrhoea) has been one of the leading causes globally in increasing the mortality rate of child population. It is leads to the inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract (GI) tract and the patient experiences vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Other symptoms include fever due to the pain and dehydration. It can be of various types amongst the children depending upon its causative agents being caused by a variety of viruses, bacteria, fungus and other parasites. It is infectious and can be spread from person to person through food and water contamination. It is more prevalent in the Aboriginal children of the Australian population due to their unhealthy lifestyle and lesser knowledge regarding their safety (Cohen, Raymond & Gendrel, 2017).
Case Study Scenario
· The case involves a 7-year-old girl, Chianki, who belongs from the Australian Aboriginal population and she has been admitted in Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne due to severe abdominal pain. She was also experiencing nausea, vomiting and had fever probably due to the pain.
· The suspected case was that of gastroenteritis after the doctor suggested a couple of tests including the USG of the whole abdomen to understand the infected part properly (Vecchio et al. 2016).
· The child was examined to be under obesity and the diet, which is given to her by her family, does not include any healthy food.
· The family do not eat adequate amount of fibrous food and the chances of contamination from food and water is even very prevalent in their area. They also follow a sedentary lifestyle and do not have any sort of immune boosters.
· The child although under obesity, her family does not have much knowledge regarding the same and her previous medical records show that she had already suffered from diarrhoea twice being an infant hence, her immune system is naturally weaker than the others are.
· According to Fathima et al. (2019), the prevalence of the hospital admissions amongst the Aboriginal populations’ children is very high especially in the last decade and they are...
