Introduction
In Psychopharmacology treatment, medications are used to treat the mental health problems. Medication plays a very important role in improving the conditions of mental health. While some patients only needed the medication as a mental health treatment, other patients need the therapy along with the medication as a treatment. There is a great importance of psychopharmacology treatment in the adolescent population. The chances of mental health problems in the adolescent generation are quite high and they need the mental treatment at a huge level. This report will be elaborated on this topic, which will be discussed in the below sections.
A. Specialty in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing and Its Significance
The job responsibility of the psychiatric mental health nurse is to work with different individuals, groups, families and to find out the mental health problems of them, to understand the mental health needs of them and to help them to have a good mental state (Rice, Stalling & Monasterio, 2019). The psychiatric mental health nurse ensures a diagnosis plan for the mental health patients and then takes all the necessary steps to implement the diagnosis plan.
They also show the effectiveness in nursing and they would try to give the best care to the mental health patients. They offered the primary mental health care services to the patients. They do not only give the treatment to one particular individual, they would also assess the treatment to the family of one mental health patient’s family. They would use the therapeutic skills, which include the skills to make the medication prescription and also to look after the administration of psychotherapy (Alburquerque-Sendín et al., 2018).
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) would do the masters or higher degree in mental health nursing. The mental health nurses also have one major responsibility to help in the mental health policy improvement and to make it more effective. The quality of the mental health treatment has been improved by the activities of the mental health nurses. There are higher degrees of these mental health nurses such as the doctorate degree or other degree in the mental health problem and be the researchers, administrators or the lecturers (Robbins & Cardinal, 2019). The psychiatric mental health nurses have the specialization to solve the crisis situation, to assess the mental health, to allocate the therapy and medication and to assist the patients.
The mental health nurse would help to live a better life of the mental health patients with a mental health good state. These nurses mainly deal with the patients who have anxiety disorders, mood disorders and Alzheimer’s disease. The nurses also deal with the patients who have accrued depression or the issues with alcohol and drug (Bussone & Iacono, 2019). The mental health nurses also provide the counselling and grooming season to the mental health patients. The workplaces of these nurses are the psychiatric hospitals, prisons and different NGOs.
B. Competencies Needed to Work in the Speciality
There are different competencies of the psychiatric nurses, which will be described below in short.
The mental health nurses manage the thinking procedure, attitude and the personal reaction process of the different individuals. They would try to improve the self-awareness of the mental-health patients. The nurses also have to try to understand the impact of their activities or emotions on the patients. The mental health patients already have some acute mental health issues and they have been already depressed. Hence, the nurses must be understanding towards them and always have many patients to handle every situation (Yang et al., 2020).
There are many mental health patients who have the suicidal tendency. The psychiatric mental health nurses have to understand the basic phenomenon and all the terms related to suicide. They should also have the knowledge about the statistics of the suicide and the protective factors of the suicidal attempt. They should get rid of the suicidal tendency of the patients and take part in the RCA program (Root Cause Analysis).
