Assessment Description: In this assessment, you are required to write an 1800 word (+/- 10%) essay using literature to support your discussion. This must include an introduction (approx. 150 words), main body (approx. 1500 words) and conclusion (approx. 150 words). Ensure you review the marking guide (marking rubric) closely to ensure you have addressed all elements of the assessment task. Assessment Task There are numerous leadership styles used in nursing, all of which impact on the quality of care provided and, ultimately, patient outcomes. Five commonly used styles in nursing include: transactional leadership; transformational leadership; democratic leadership; authoritarian leadership and laissez-faire leadership. 1. Choose three of the above listed leadership styles. Critically analyse each of your chosen styles by examining the benefits and limitations of each. Identify clinical situation(s) where the leadership style/s may be appropriate and provide your rationale (approx. 750 words). 2. Choose a nursing role model from your previous clinical placement or workplace (e.g., a preceptor, nurse manager, associate nurse unit manager, senior registered nurse, clinical support nurse or educator). Briefly introduce your role model by including their position and the clinical context in which you worked with them (ensure you maintain their anonymity). Identify the leadership style or styles they use and describe their behaviours and actions that demonstrate the style(s) (approx. 250 words). 3. Leadership is found everywhere, in this essay, we will focus on the importance and significance of leadership in nursing. Over the past few years, the responsibilities of nurses are increasing and better leadership is required to perform the responsibilities in an efficient manner. There are several type of leadership styles such as Transformation leadership, clinical leadershi
p, authoritarian leadership and democratic leadership and every leadership style has its own benefits (Choi, 2018).
In nursing profession, it is very important to have good leadership as it influence the health care center at all levels. I work in an acute care ward of the hospital and therefore I see a lot of patient in many critical situations. It is our duty to attend our patients all the time and to provide them with the best treatment. However, the conditions in the acute ward are very difficult as all the patients are very critical and there is no scope for any delay and carelessness. While working in an acute care setting, I had the best learning experiences in the terms of leadership. As leadership determines the coordination between the nurses and patients in acute care ward. The responsibilities, delegations and the assessments are very difficult in acute ward and therefore it was a good experience to learn about the properties of leadership (Fahlberg, 2016). The situation is critical as some of the patients are at the verge of dying due to some critical conditions and the best decisions has to take place to give the best care to the patient. The qualities of a good leader includes a good communication skill, excellent interpersonal skills, confidence as well as empathy. There are several ways of leadership styles and different learners leaders adapt for different styles. However, the main aim is to achieve the quality for treating the patients. The type of leadership approaches that can be used in clinical settings, democratic nursing, authoritarian nursing, democratic nursing and clinical nursing (Harington, 2021). 
Transformation leadership style focus on the learning of the employees and it involves the inputs of the team members to make a decision. While, in democratic leadership style, the leader is authoritative and make the decision themselves. In my experience both the approaches has helped me to get the best results in the overall management of the patients and also helped me in evolving as a nurse (Salvage 2019). Here, we will discuss about the pros and cons of both the type of leadership and about my experience with both the type of leaderships.
Transactional leadership features the significance of association, management, and gathering execution. As the name recommends, it sees the connection between medical care chiefs and staff as value-based. By tolerating their positions, staff individuals certainly consent to comply with initiative. In my situation also, the leadership of Marine helped me to get the best solution to treat the hypoglycemia after my mistake.
